Union County Sex Offender List
In 1998 the General
Assembly passed legislation drafted by the Attorney General; permitting
the public posting of sex offenders on the internet. Previously if a
citizen wanted to find out if their new neighbor was a child molester or
had been convicted of a sex crime, they had to go to the Sheriff's Office
and identify the subject by name. Now The Union County Sheriff's Office
provides this information through it's website along with other important
information.

This list is posted
to alert possible victims of potential danger, not to punish or embarrass
offenders. Unfortunately, many sexual predators fail to control their
obsessive impulses and repeat their offenses. Clearly, the Sheriff has a
greater responsibility to ensure the safety of victims than to protect the
privacy of convicted criminals.
It is a crime to
use this information to commit other crimes such as attacking an offender
listed on this registry.

Section
23-3-460 (A) A person required to register pursuant to this
article is required to register bi-annually for life. For
purposes of this article, 'bi-annually' means each year during
the month of his birthday and again during the sixth month
following his birth month. The person required to register shall
register and must re-register at the sheriff's department in each county
where he resides, owns real property, or attends any public or private
school, including, but not limited to, a secondary school, adult
education school, college or university, and any vocational, technical,
or occupational school
